International Trade Certification Examination

POLICIES/PROCEDURES

1. All of the international trade certification examinations can be scheduled by the prospective examinee at a local college, university or testing center. The individual should gain contact information from at least two local testing centers and submit that information on the Test Site Application. Test Administration staff will then schedule with one of those entities on a date that all parties deem suitable (see 5).

2. As of September 2000, only those individuals who complete the prescribed course of study for a particular certification examination may sit for the certification examination. Each Test Application will be compared to that individual’s file to insure that the required courses have been completed or that a waiver has been granted.

3. Organizations that may proctor the examinations consist of licensed training organizations, licensed in-house training programs within corporations, accredited colleges and universities and trade schools worldwide. Individuals may select one of these organizations near where they live by entering its name on their testing application. the test application must be received by IIEI’s Testing Center no later than 30 days in advance specifying exam date, location and name/address/phone # of contact and number of exams requested.

4. Following the receipt of an individual’s Test Application, IIEI’s Testing Center will contact the organization listed by the individual on the Test Application to make arrangements for the organization to proctor the test. Confirmation will be sent to the Applicant of the final approval of the testing site no later than two weeks prior to the exam test date.

5. Regardless of the test administration site, all Test Applications must be received at IIEI’s Testing Center no later than 30 days prior to the examination test date specified on the application.

6. All Test Applications must be accompanied with all paperwork required for the certification designation examination to be administered. This includes all supporting documentation, a copy of the Applicant’s resume (attached to application), application processing fee, testing fee. The IIEI will determine if an individual is qualified or not qualified for the certification designation of the exam requested. Not qualified individuals can still take the exam, but will find the level of certification reduced to the appropriate level or postponed until the job experience requirement has been met. Should a reduction be deemed necessary by the Certification Department, the individual will be notified in advance of the test date.

7. There is NO minimum requirement of the number of applicants necessary to administer an exam. If a test site wishes to cancel an exam administration at its site, it must be done no later than two weeks before exam date.

8. APPLICANT EXAM CANCELLATION POLICY - If an individual needs to cancel and re-schedule the Exam Site & Exam Date, they must provide IIEI’s Certification Manager written notification of change at least ten (10) working days prior to examination date. A $25.00 Cancellation Fee will be assessed to individuals seeking cancel or re-schedule. Failing to provide this ten (10) day notice will result in a $100.00 Cancellation Fee being assessed. All individuals have one year to take the Certification Examination from the date of their original application. If they do not, they must re-apply by submitting another test application, the full application and exam fees.

9. IIEI’s Certification Manager will issue a list of applicant names specifying what level of examination they will be taking, and the “paid” status of these individuals for each exam site. No one can walk-in and take exam if their name is not on this list. This list, along with exams, answer sheets and proctor instructions, are mailed to the test location by Priority Mail or Global Priority Mail or Federal Express (outside the U.S. where global Priority Mail is unavailable).

Test locations should receive the test package no later than four days before the scheduled test date. This gives the proctor time to review all material and call the Certification Manager with any questions. Exams must be locked in a secure and confidential location until exam is administered.

10. Applicants are required to be present and prompt for the examination from 8:00 a.m. (or approved starting time) until completion of all examination sections.

11. An individual is not required to be an IIEI member in order to take the exam.

12. IIEI’s certified members must submit a re-certification application for re-certification within one (1) year prior to the end of five (5) years since their original certification date or last re-certification date. (EXAMPLE: An IIEI who is certified (or re-certified) in the year 2000 must report on activities (education, work experience and IIEI service) between 2001 and 2005. He/she must submit his/her re-certification application prior to the test month in which he/she was certified in year 2005. Periodic re-certification is deemed necessary to assure that IIEI Certified members remain active in the international trade arena. IIEI’s Certified members who fail to be re-certified or meet the continuing education requirements of certification inside the five (5) year limit will be required to retake certification examination.*

*Different requirements exist for Certified U.S. Export Compliance Officer® and for taking the examination online.
