Canada Export Controls - IIEI-324
Course Description: This six-week online course provides students with a detailed understanding of Canada Export Controls. This is designed both for Canadian exporters, who must be in full compliance with Canada’s export regulations, and for non-Canadians who are importing from or exporting to Canada and need to interface with Canadian companies. In practical exercises and activities, students will learn the use of the Export Control List, Individual and General Export Permits, supporting documentation, and recordkeeping.
Prerequisite: Recommended, but not required. One-year relevant industry experience and IIEI-307, Understanding the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) or IIEI-306, Understanding the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Course Credit: 3 Credit Hours

As a result of the group and individual activities included in this course, the student will acquire the following knowledge and skills that can be applied to the workplace:
Introduction to Canada Export Controls
• Analyze the export controls enforced by the Canadian government, purposes of export controls and concepts behind them.
• Assess the relationship with United States Export Controls.
The Export Control List and International Agreements
• Distinguish among the international agreements to which Canada is a party and their influence on Canadian export controls policy.
• Utilize the use of the Export Control List for classification
• Identify Final Destinations and Transshipments and evaluate their impact on the export transaction.
Individual and General Export Permits and Advisory Opinion
• Distinguish between Individual Export Permits and General Export Permits.
• Decide when and how to request Advisory Opinions
EXCOL and U.S. Origin and Destination Articles
• Determine the uses of Export Controls Online (EXCOL)
• Differentiate among the special provisions for exporting articles of United States origin.
• Identify the parameters for exporting articles to the United States.
Temporary versus Permanent Exports and Imports
• Differentiate among types of Temporary Imports
• Differentiate among types of Temporary Exports
• Construct strategies for Temporary Imports and Exports.
End-User Assurances, Export Declarations, and Recordkeeping
• Identify the need for End-User Assurances
• Differentiate among types of End-User Assurances
• Determine appropriate filing using the Canadian Automated Export Declaration
• Administer Recordkeeping for Canadian Export Compliance
