“When you require your foreign trade counterparts to be industry certified, you know what to expect of their abilities, code of ethics and professionalism. Anything less exposes you to more risk and problems. They feel the same about you. Let your certification speak volumes about you.”
In concert with the Certification Board of Governors, the International Import-Export Institute offers nine international trade certifications, which are recognized by the US Government and governments worldwide as the professional standard of achievement and proficiency for individuals serving the international trade community –Import and Export– globally.
The certifications range from entry-level to senior-level in scope, with some certifications being very specialized, such as Certified International Trade Finance Specialist®. Each certification has its own requirements, including experience requirements, examination requirements and required training courses. Once an applicant has successfully completed the examination, achieved an acceptable grade, certification is then awarded.
Whether someone lives in China, Brazil, Germany or the United States of America, the proficiency examination and certification requirements are the same. Through a global network of associated colleges, universities and training organizations, industry certification is equally available to people in all nations.
Professionals working in the arena of international trade need to be able to quickly assess the proficiency of those in other organizations and countries with whom they interface. IIEI is charged with the administration and validation of this important professional certification process.
Prior to the existence of Certification Board of Governors, there was no established worldwide standards organization that met the industry’s growing need for validation of professional proficiency. Based on the prompting of industry experts, corporate leaders and government agency representatives’ suggestions, the International Export Institute Inc. was incorporated in 1995 to provide training in support of the industry standards established by the Certification Board of Governors, a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation.
Without completion of the prerequisites set forth by IIEI, our policy is that in the event that the student does not pass a section of the exam, they must retake the entire exam at the full-fee.
The Need
Employers need to be able to assess a person’s preparedness to meet the demands of the workplace. Industry certification provides employers with a third-party validation of a candidate’s skills and abilities. Industry certification identifies individuals who have meet the industry established proficiency requirements from those less prepared.
By achieving industry certification, skilled and knowledgeable individuals are able to differentiate themselves from lesser prepared individuals as they build their careers.
Organizations that require individuals be industry certified are differentiating themselves from less prepared organizations, and they are emphasizing the importance that this knowledge serves within their organization.
Industry Standard
Premier organizations involved in international trade view industry certification as a preferred way to validate the knowledge and skills of those they hire. Because of this, people who are industry certified find their certification an asset when seeking employment and when seeking advancement within their companies. Industry certified individuals can be found throughout the industry in leading organizations such as Boeing, Procter & Gamble, Lockheed Martin, APL Logistics, and in most industries, including aerospace and defense companies. As the number of certified individuals continues to increase to meet the growing demand, more and more employers are relying upon it as an important consideration in hiring and training personnel.
Individuals who are new entrants to the industry find industry certification very helpful in gaining entry into this very competitive industry.
Because the testing standards are constantly updated in response to input from our advisors– from government, industry and colleges and universities around the world, international trade certification has become an important component of preparing for a career in international commerce.
